As we’ve been hinting at for a little while, New Age Dad is primed to release a series of songs that mark collaborations with a stable of fellow artists and musicians, some of them friends.
The premise is simple: NAD starts a song, sends it to a buddy who adds some layers and sends it back. NAD finishes the song, and sends it to another artist who will craft a cover to accompany the release. The finished product will be available for download as a zip file here and nowhere else.
We kicked off our collaborative journey with our departed friend Ashley Jade, who helped us build the album closer for Songs From the Government School, and have just sent a hunk of music to our second cohort, Professor Joe Wenderoth.
Who is Joe? A few highlights:
- Rolling Stone named Joe one of the ten best writers under 35, back when he was under 35
- Joe’s experimental novel, Letter’s to Wendy’s, remains a modern cult classic, and was once described as “pretty good”
- Joe’s performance with Gibby Haynes of Butthole Surfers last year in Brooklyn wasn’t recorded very well
- Joe’s band, House Crackers, featuring a host of cross-dressing professorial talent from Davis, Calif., might become a threat one day
- Joe’s YouTube channel is marvelous
For our buck, Joe is a fellow father and lover of good music, excepting a strange fascination with Kid Rock. We are excited to share with you whatever he shares with us.
